Sophie was our first female purchased. We bought Sophie from The Vinyard Bordeaux's in Michigan as a show quality, breeding dogue. Unfortunately, Sophie did not reflect the quality of her price tag. It was discovered that she had a serious hereditary eye defect called DISTICHIASIS. This defect is highly painful for a dog and can cause blindness if untreated. Treatment consists of surgery, often several costly surgeries before the problem is manageable. To date, Sophie has had two surgeries, costing almost $1,000.00 for the first surgery and $700.00 for the second. At the time of the second surgery she was only 10 months old. She will need 2 more surgeries to ensure the problem is gone :(
In addition to the eye disorder, Sophie would be strictly pet quality anyways, as she possesses a clear disqualifying fault according to the breed standard. This fault being a parallel muzzle, roman nose and lack of stop- as you can clearly see in the photos below.
Despite Sophie's faults, to us, who she is in her heart makes her perfect, and beautiful in our eyes. We are just happy that she came to us so we could ensure that she received the proper care for her eyes and she will live with us happily for the rest of her days.
BEWARE!! of unethical breeders and breeders that do NOT stand behind their puppies or their contract.
